Boy yaa Girl is a finalist in our 2018 Mini Shorts category, we ask Preetam Naik some questions!
What was your inspiration behind the story?
In india, mostly all the parents wants boy in their family for their generation to carry on,while girl is looked as a burden in their family because during marriage you have to give dowry (money) to get married which poor family cant afford... so their are cases in which girls are killed after their are born or mothers do abortion to get rid of girls...
What made you decide to make this movie?
This is my story... im a selfish person running after my dreams of making movies and not looking after my parents and my sister takes care of them... Boy are always selfish
What were some hurdles you came across during filming?
There was a scene which was left to be shot... in which pregnant lady gets unconscious and falls on the ground also her son falls along with her... she crawls on the ground and comes near to find if her son is ok... mothers always care for their son.... despite all the troubles .. Since i had to wrap the shot in one day I couldn't shoot this scene which was very emotional scene to me.
Since this was my debut film with limited budget... my producer daughter was to play a small role but once i said roll she started crying and didn't stop... luckily the child didn't have any dialogues so i found another child in the building we were shooting...
What advice can you give to aspiring film makers?
Live your dreams.... Sometimes dreams comes true
