Isabella Andronos, director, talks about her music video clip for Jep and Dep's, Cruel Moon, which is a finalist in our Music Clip's for 2018.
What was their inspiration behind the story?
Jep and Dep have all their music videos in black and white. Working with this idea, we were drawn to the old black and white films of Hollywood. In our narrative, Dep is thinking about an old love. He re-visits her in a film and looses himself in the memory.
Who was the inspiration for the music video?
The inspiration behind the clip was old Hollywood cinema. We looked at the decadent costumes, locations and cinematography of the period. There is a sense of melancholy to the song which we wanted to capture in the visuals.
What was the hardest part of shooting?
We worked well together as a team. The shot of Dep playing the guitar in the hallway was his idea. We tried to add in as much input from everyone on the team as possible in our short shooting schedule. The only major hurdle was time. We could have shot for another day with all our ideas!
Any particular on set moment that stands out?
The most memorable on set moment was shooting Jep in front of her own self portrait. There is a scene at the beginning where we see Jep walk in front of a large portrait. This was from a photographic project about twins which Jep created at Sydney College of the Arts. We loved the idea of having her in front of her own amazing portrait.
What advise do you have for aspiring music artists?
Keep trying, keep making, keep experimenting.
