Syrian Ocean is a finalist in our 2018 screenplay category, and we chat to writer Jeffrey Morin about what inspired the story.
What was your inspiration behind the story? Seeing the devistation of the Syrian refugees and being able to do little about it. I tried to write something hat would help me feel what the refugees feel, even if only on the other side of the fence looking in.
In what moment did you decide to create the screenplay? Watching the images on the news and how often times it was shown as a side thought. I wanted to bring the issue back to the front of something, even if only my art.
What did you want out of the process? The want to help, to touch, to do something other than just want.
Do you have any advise for aspiring writers? Feel something deeply enough before you art..
Any future projects in the works? Yes working on a feature script that will also be transitioned to an poetic nove and play, titled, “A Salty Sea”. Also a pilot called “Red Meat”.
